(b) How to add content

In WordPress, you can write either posts or pages. When you’re writing a regular blog entry, you write a post. Posts automatically appear in reverse chronological order on your blog’s home page. Pages, on the other hand, are for content such as “About Me,” “Contact Me,” etc. Pages live outside of the normal blog chronology, and are often used to present information about yourself or your site that is somehow timeless — information that is always applicable.

b1. how to create a new page

  1. Click the Pages tab.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. Fill in the subject line, write your content.
  4. When you are ready, click Publish.

b2. how to create a new post (the basics)

  3. Fill in the subject line, write your content, select or add a category for your post, add descriptive tags of your content.
  4. When you are ready, click Publish.

b3. how to edit your post (advanced)

  1. Alt-Shift-Z or clicking the kitchen sink icon will drop down a series of additional features to edit your content with (font, underline, text colour, etc).
  2. You can drag the bottom right corner of your content box up/down to decrease/increase the size of the content box you’re working with.
  3. Click the insert more tag icon (or Alt-Shift-T) at any point in the post and it breaks the post into “teaser” and content sections. On your blog’s home page you’ll see only the text before the break followed by a ‘continue reading’ hyperlink to the full article.

b4. how to insert images and set post thumbnails

  1. Beneath the subject line you should see ‘Add media: (sun symbol)’. Click on the symbol.
  2. Click Browse and find the image on your local computer. Note: it is recommended that you make your filename “server friendly.” Make sure the filename has no spaces, apostrophes, slashes or other non-alphanumeric characters (such as $, % and &). Rename the file before uploading if it does. To preserve readability, some people replace spaces with the underline character. For instance, My File Name.txt becomes My_File_Name.txt.
  3. Select the image on your computer, just like you were navigating to and opening a file in a word-processing program, and click Open. The file will then be uploaded.
  4. Now whatever image you have uploaded are sitting there on the Web server, waiting to be used.
  5. Select the image you’ve just uploaded. Under Title type a short, plain-language descriptive title for the file.
  6. If you want to insert the image into your post – select the alignment and size then click ‘insert into post’.
  7. If you want to use the uploaded image as the post thumbnail simply click ‘use as thumbnail’
